«回帰 — revolve»
Tokyo never stops shifting, mutating. Leave for two weeks, and the
skyline you thought you knew would glitch—new towers spliced into
existence, old ones erased like corrupted data. It feels less like a city
and more like a system running some unknowable, recursive update. At times, I imagined nano-swarms knitting glass and steel together in the dark, structures ghosting into place before dawn, the urban fabric rewriting itself faster than memory could keep up.
After almost 15 years of living, working, fighting and photographing in Tokyo, I decided to turn back, chase ghosts through Tokyo’s shifting architecture, retracing old circuits with new intent. What came of it? Two collections of images, fragments of a city always just out of reach; and one music video.
回帰 — Revolve:
Going around in circles, returning to the starting point, to analog film, to prints, to Ōokayama, to documenting Yamanote line and photographing Shinjuku. Going around in circles like the Yamanote-line; returning to Luzern, then Zurich, Narita and back to Tokyo, back and forth.
